GIVING BACK WITH #GIVINGTUESDAY

GIVING BACK WITH #GIVINGTUESDAY

It’s easy to get caught up in the spending, buying and shopping mentality of Black Friday and Cyber Monday without stopping to think of those less fortunate than ourselves. Giving Tuesday was started a few years ago to bring the focus back to helping others after the rush of holiday shopping has begun.

SO WHAT IS GIVING TUESDAY?

GivingTuesday was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good. Over the past seven years, it has grown into a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.

Whether it’s making someone smile, helping a neighbor or stranger out, showing up for an issue or people we care about, or giving some of what we have to those who need our help, every act of generosity counts and everyone has something to give.

Given our love of the coasts here at Beachly, it’s immensely important to us to do what we can to protect and nurture our precious beaches. To do our part in helping this effort, we give a portion of proceeds from all boxes sold to our charity, Heal The Bay to help them continue their monthly beach clean-ups.

ABOUT HEAL THE BAY

Heal the Bay is L.A. County’s leading environmental nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting local watersheds. The organization has a 34-year track record of using sound science and community engagement to keep our coastline clean, healthy and vibrant. The group conducts two beach cleanups per day on average.

How's this for collective action? 1,000 people volunteered in October 2019 at Heal the Bay's Santa Monica Beach cleanup! The group removed 168 pounds of trash and debris before it reached the sea.

This year, the beach clean-ups that we have funded through Heal The Bay have now removed over 2 tons of trash (4K lbs) from oceans & beaches

Heal the Bay also issues water quality grades for more than 500 beaches each week via the Beach Report Card with NowCast, provides weekly water quality grades for dozens of freshwater areas with the River Report Card, educates thousands of local schoolchildren each year and operates the award-winning Heal the Bay Aquarium. HOW YOU CAN GIVE BACK

The GivingTuesday website has some great ideas for giving back on their website that you can find here. There is no gift that is too small, whether it’s giving a smile, donating your time or contributing money. This GivingTuesday we encourage you to give something positive to others, whatever that means for you.
